The zines reflect my interpretation of the book Just Kids by Patti Smith. I was particularly inspired by Smith's reflection on a photograph taken years ago by Robert Mapplethorpe for the album cover of Horses, where she states, “I never see me. I see us.” I interpreted this quote as a metaphor for their love, choosing transparent tracing paper to symbolize this idea.
The zine was created during my participation in a book study group (GEL), under the guidance of Dr. Cristiane Alcantara and artist Gabriela Irigoyen. It is based on and inspired by Just Kids and involves a personal selection of text, allowing me to take on the role of narrator in the love story between Patti Smith and Robert Mapplethorpe.
