This project was part of the CUID - Conferenza Universitaria Italiana del Design exhibition at the Italian Pavilion during the Biennale Architettura 2021, themed "How Will We Live Together?"
The Cultivating Utopia project examines Milan’s Shared Gardens, which are neglected public spaces transformed into inclusive and innovative hubs through community gardening. Recognized by the city since 2012, these gardens are described as "concrete utopias" and heterotopias, promoting social and urban regeneration while fostering relationships and new urban identities.
The initiative explores how to convey their pedagogical and transformative value, focusing on six exemplary gardens. It aims to highlight their role in bottom-up social innovation, diversity education, and imagination. The project delivers its message through a guide pack, a temporary installation, and an Instagram presence.
